NITDA RECEIVES OUTSTANDING RECOGNITION FOR THE PROMOTION OF ICT4D
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), has received the award for the Outstanding Recognition for the Promotion of ICT4D, the Award was presented to the agency at the 2014 Cyber Nigeria and African Innovation Award, with the Theme: Cyber Space-Enterprise/Innovation, Security and Challenges.
The DG NITDA, Mr. Peter Jack by represented by Director, Corporate Strategy and Research, Dr. Vincent Olatunji at the event said in his acceptance remarks, expressed his delight over the recognition, enjoined all stakeholders to partner with NITDA in order to bring about the desired e-revolution speedily. He described the ICT4D Project as the bedrock of national development and pledged the Agency’s total commitment to the Vision 202020 agenda.
And he said NITDA will continue to implement policies and embark on many initiatives in the area of IT infrastructure and human capital development, institutional development and also trying to reach the over 52% of Nigerians living in rural areas, and encouraging states to replicate NITDA at states level by creating their own Information development Agency or Ministry.
The Agency also got a boost from two other winners on it’s the sponsored YOUTH INNOVATION category which was won by ASA and JOBS IN NIGERIA. ASA is an application developed by Adebayo Adegbembo that enables the user access valuable information about Nigeria cultural history, values, and practices. And the second winner in this category is JOBS IN NIGERIA application which helps the unemployed gain access to vacancies in organizations online. Dr. Olatunji in his congratulatory message while presenting the awards, encouraged the recipients not to rest on their oars but to keep the innovative spirit alive by coming up with better ideas that will be beneficial to society as a whole. He disclosed that the Agency will continue to support an innovation as that was the only way we can develop and even export indigenous technology.
